An explanation of what information is required, and how to fill out each section.
You can also see a simplified, visual submission example here.
Not sure if your character is allowed? Please see the Allowed Characters and Series page.
Note: We are only just now beginning to officially enforce the below requirements. Many existing character entries might not adhere to these guidelines, so please do not use them as a basis for your new submission. As time goes on we will be updating the information already published to be compliant with what is written here.
Visit this page while logged into your account to submit a character.
Minimum Required Information
There are a few sections of information that we absolutely require a character to have filled out in order to see their submission approved. Unlike other websites, we aren’t satisfied with having “no biography written” or not having a default character image.
The sections that must be present in order to have your character submission approved are Waifu Name (aka Character Name), Original Name, and a multi-sentence description (more information below). Along with this we also require a SFW image from an official source that prominently features the character (preferably also in portrait format) and a filled-out submission notes section that includes a link to the character in question’s existing database/wiki entry as well as a link to the series they appear in (this series link can be either offsite or from our own website if a listing already exists).
It is within Staff’s discretion to deny characters that don’t meet the above Minimum Required Information guidelines, and is not necessarily their responsibility to fill out otherwise incomplete submissions. Staff’s primary job is to edit and format the information already provided where necessary in order to comply with our preferred structure.
Character Names
Note: There are frequent situations where a character may have their name written in the exact same way across multiple sections. In these cases, we ask that you leave these additional sections blank in order to cut back on redundant information.
Any Western character, or character from a Western-based region that appears in an Eastern series (this is obvious if their ‘original name’ is written in katakana rather than kanji or hiragana), would likely have their name duplicated when filling out the Romaji Name section. This should be left blank instead.
Waifu Name
This is the character’s real or commonly-known name, as would be written in the English language (first name, last name). Whereas most Japanese characters will have their family name written first (ec. Yuuki Asuna), we prioritize having it written in Western format (ec. Asuna Yuuki).
This section is required for a character to be approved.
We do not allow characters who don’t have an attributable name (ec. ‘Maki’s Mother,’ Torako’s Owner, etc.)
Original Name
This is again the character’s real or commonly-known name, as would be written in their native language. In the case of most anime characters, this will be a kanji, katakana, or hiragana name written with the characters for their family name first (ec. 結城 明日奈).
This section is required for a character to be approved.
Certain Western animation and video game series might not have this available, in which case it can be left blank.
Romaji Name
This is used to again write a character’s name in English, but using the native writing format (last name, first name). For example, while the primary name might be Asuna Yuuki, if it were to be written in Japan it would be formatted as Yuuki Asuna with the last name first. This is how it should appear in this section.
Note: Only applies to characters from Eastern-based regions who use the last name, first name format. All Western characters should have this section left blank in order to prevent redundancy and duplicate information.
Additional Information
Husbando and NSFW Tags
Submissions need to be tagged appropriately if either of the above tags applies. Male characters must be tagged with the Husbando option, and all characters that are from a Hentai or otherwise non-SFW series must be tagged with the NSFW choice.
Born In
This is the location that the character in question was born or grew up in. It could be a city, district, country (outside of Japan), planet, in the case of series based in a different universe, or anything else officially confirmed by the source material. If all we know is that the character was born in Japan, please just leave it blank. This is redundant information obvious based on the type of media they appear in.
Description
This is arguably the most important section of any character’s website entry. Here is where you further elaborate on who the character is as a person, or anything else related to them. You can either write this section in your own words, copy what is written on their existing wiki entry, or pull information directly from the source material. As a baseline for a new character to be approved, you must include at least a multiple-sentence description with information about who they are, their appearance, and their personality. All statements should be officially or canonically confirmed in their source material. See also: Minimum Required Information.
Exceptions will be made for characters from new, currently-airing series, where additional information might not be available.
This section is required for a character to be approved.
Age
This is a character’s canonical age, based on officially confirmed information from the source material. It should always reflect their oldest or most recent age. If this information hasn’t been confirmed, please leave the section blank.
Birth Month
This is a character’s canonical birth month, based on officially confirmed information from the source material. If this information hasn’t been confirmed, please leave the section blank.
Birth Day
This is a character’s canonical birthday, based on officially confirmed information from the source material. If this information hasn’t been confirmed, please leave the section blank.
Birth Year
This is a character’s canonical birth year, based on officially confirmed information from the source material. Even if this information has been confirmed by the creator, unless otherwise vital to a character’s development or background, we would prefer that you just leave this section blank. There is a possibility that this section is removed in the future out of redundancy, or replaced with a different section.
Height
Please use centimeters (cm) when filling out this section.
Weight
Please use kilograms (kg) when filling out this section.
Blood Type
ec. A, B, AB, O, etc.
Bust
Please use centimeters (cm) when filling out this section.
Waist
Please use centimeters (cm) when filling out this section.
Hip
Please use centimeters (cm) when filling out this section.
Note: All of the above information should only be filled out if it has been officially been confirmed by the creator and/or source material. Please do not guess, just leave the section blank.
Submission Notes for Staff
Individual moderators can, at their own discretion, decide to complete and approve your submissions without these links, but as a general rule a filled out submission notes section is required for a character to be approved.
See also: Minimum Required Information.
In order to make the character approval process as easy as possible for us, we ask that you take the time to fill out the submission notes section prior to submitting it.
We expect all submissions to include at least what is required below.
One of the following:
- A link to the character’s entry on an alternative anime database website
- A link to the character’s entry on a community wiki (ec. fandom)
- A link to the character’s entry on an official website
One of the following:
- A link to the applicable series on an alternative anime database website
- A link to the applicable series’ community wiki (ec. fandom)
- A link to the applicable series’ official website
- A link the applicable source material
Exceptions will be made for characters from new, currently-airing series, where additional information might not be available.
If applicable, please let us know by leaving a note at the top of the section.
Additional Information
Please don’t hesitate to include anything you think might be beneficial to us as we go through character submissions. The more information you can provide the better, and this helps to make it more likely that we get through your submission(s) quicker.
Default Display Picture
Please upload a safe-for-work (SFW) image from an official source! This can be from the anime (ec. screenshot), manga, official website, or other material. We prefer that imagery from the anime be used if a TV adaptation for the series in question exists. Please make sure that the image used prominently features the character it is meant to be displayed for, and that it is in portrait format and highest resolution whenever possible.
Submit Waifu
If you have made it to this point you are officially done with your character submission! All that’s left is to click Submit Waifu and leave it to us so that we can confirm the information required is present, accurate, and ready to be published
As of 03/19/2020 we still have a backlog of character submissions to go through, so we don’t offer an estimated timeframe for approval at the moment. That being said, we are doing our best to get through them as quickly as possible. You can keep up-to-date with all of your submissions via the my submissions section under your account.
If you have questions, please use the support and feedback channel on our public Discord server, or contact us via email here.
